FISHABOUT - Mar. April 2011 Venus Bay South Australia

Off to Venus Bay via - Wudinna to get new tires for the Land Cruiser. After the stump ripped a hole in our left front tire touring Mt Ive Station.
I was hoping to get another 10 -15,000k's out of them, not to be. Easy drive down to Venus Bay and were soon set up at Len & Joy's 'SHACK'

Yes! This is what they call a 'SHACK' A great vacation 'SHACK' at least 16 beds / bunks, even a table tennis table in the main room!

The caravan park across the road was jammed packed with back to back and side to side vans, motor home, campers and tents - no room to F___T!

Neat succulent type flower in the back yard

The calm mornings and sunrise's best part of the day!

Working the mud/ weed flats for their feed

He's our feed for the day! Only 2 undersize KGW returned to the briny!

Early morning bike ride around the coastal walk

Guess what, not another sole in site - fantastic!

Another feed - this is some of Len & Joys share

Feeding time! As soon as you get any where near the beach with a bucket, it's a mass invasion

Even the crabs get in on the feeding

Our new power supply for our Tinnie GPS and sounder

Now modified with 2 clip in type 12 volt sockets, removed the battery jumper cable etc.

From auto electrician to baker - Banana fruit loaf - Yum!

Another early morning bike ride to Back Beach I think they call it.

Edward John Eyre - visited and obtained water from the rock hole back in August 1839 and October 1840.

Just off the main drag and about 3 k's from Venus Bay

Fine railway workers the Jetty slopes slightly, thus a free ride to the vessels unloading
Roof to the under ground water supply tank for venus bay caravan park. There is a water bore and pump about 2 k's away in the salt bush mud flats that keeps the tank resupplied. Other wise it's rain water tanks for all local residence.

Clarrie - sorting out our auto electrical problems with the wipers. Finally found a short some where in the cable harness running down the left hand side to the the rear wipers. Solution - cut the offending cable, as we don't use the rear wiper - towing!

Clarrie & Helen are on their way home to Hopetoun - WA after touring Tassie and living in a camper trailer under canvas for 7 months. Their 30+ foot bus just a trad to big for Tassie and the ferry crossing cost!

This guy would be out every morning for an hour or so, getting the sand crustations and then be out in his Kayaka for several hours and bag out with KGW most days.

Vintage vessel - Reg Smarts - local, ex-professional King George Whiting (KGW) fisherman

Helen out for a fishing trip whilst Clarrie looked after the dog's

Yep! Helen caught her fair share of the KGW and  a few crabs

Sue and Helen are ready for another mornings fishing = little did we know, but sure fortunate for Graham!

This is Faye and Graham x 2. Graham 2 got pulled into the briny whilst trying to retrieve the anchor with the tide in full flood (side anchored) Faye was unable to assist getting Graham back into the tinnie as not very mobile due to a stroke 20 years ago.

It was sure fortunate we were chugging past at the time, and Sue actually witnessed Graham get his leg pulled out from under him.

It took awhile but we finally got Graham back into the tinnie, embedded fish hook and all

Anchors up and away, back to camp after that scare!

Rescue operations still in progress. Pulled out my medical gear and soon had the hook extracted.

Happy Graham's after that ordeal!!

Another calm morning - great fishing weather even if it was a bit chilly in the early AM.

We now have a rescue ladder that can be fitted to any tinnie. All items to make the rescue ladder salvaged - rope -Lincoln Nat. Park, aluminium tube - Borrollola Mitre 11, and stowage bag - camp chair fabric, Alexander Bay - W.A.

SMICK - Mike and Sue - departing Venus Bay. They dropped in for a cuppa, when they spotted our camp. 1st meet Mike and Sue at Mt Ive / Lake Gardiner 2010. They got as far as Kimba this year when the road was closed.

Sue's and Faye - Sue's been in the sun or is that the happy hour glow?

A local! After two blissfull weeks it was time to head to warmer clime's via Minnipa to get some welding done at Cookey's, and drop off some KGW at Mt Ive Station
